Book in a Series – The Kane Chronicles

Don't you hate it when you are reading a book and it's part of a book series and you have to wait FOREVER for the next book to come out.  Then you get the next book and you can't remember where it left off?  Well I'm going to summarize a book in a series that I've read so that when I get the next book I can look at my summary and know what happened.  Warning, the following contains spoilers!

The Serpent’s Shadow – 05/01/12

Carter and Sadie Kane are battling the chaos serpent Apophis.  They race to prevent him from rising by awakening Ra so that he can trap and kill Apophis.  They break into Brooklyn Museum to get The Book of Ra.  Instead they find a piece of papyrus that is booby trapped.  Luckily they are not alone, Khufu the baboon and their trainees, Jaz and Walt are there to help.  Jaz performs a spell that sends the demons to the Duat but she ends up in a coma.  She gives Sadie a wax statue to help heal Carter but doesn’t tell her when she will need it.  They go back to the mansion and see that they only have 4 days in which to wake Ra up or Apophis will wake and swallow the sun and all existence (basically end of the world).  They must find three scrolls that control embodiments of Ra, so they have 1 so far that they got at the museum.  They find out that Vladimir has one of the scrolls and he is serving Apophis.

Sadie talks with Anubis and finds out where to go next and also given a netjeri knife as well as a kiss.  She gets rescued by the dwarf god Bes because her grandparents are taken over by Nekhbet (Vulture Goddess) and Babi (Baboon God).  So now Bes is there to help them and he opens a portal for them to go through.  He insists Walt not go through for some reason.  They end up at the 19^th Nome in Russia.  They steal the scroll from Vladimir but get attacked by a two-headed snake.  Carter gets bitten and Sadie destroys the snake.  Vladimir manages to raise Set and Set tells them where the last scroll is and where the real Zia is in exchange for Sadie giving him his “secret name” back.  Sadie uses the statue Jaz gave her to heal Carter.

Walt & Sadie go to find the scroll and Carter and Bes go to find Zia.  She was being hosted by Nephtys but finally leaves her body.  Sadie and Carter find the last scroll and she finds out that Walt is cursed to die young and that’s why Bes didn’t want him going into the portal.

Walt and Zia go to fight Vladimir and Sadie and Carter go into the Duat to free Ra.  They must visit each of the 12 Houses.  After much work they find all the parts of Ra and banish Apophis but he’ll be back. 

When they get back to Brooklyn House they find that Horus, Isis and many of the gods are not happy about having Ra back.  Walt will die within a year unless they find a cure for the curse, which Vladimir knew but he is dead.  Bes had helped them in the underworld but is stuck in the 4^th House with no memories of who or where he is.  Ra is still weak and must regain his strength.  The House of Life is after the Kanes because they think they’re responsible for Desjardins’ death, which they are not since he helped them defeat Apophis.
