I really enjoyed this book and was surprised to learn all the hardships that Chinese immigrants had to go through. This books follows sisters Pearl & May for 20 years. First their life in Shanghai as calendar girls, then we follow them to California as Chinese brides. Then once they have been her for several years and all that they have gone through and all the family has been through. But through it all these sisters managed to stay together.
